Chapter 17 – Financial Crises
“What are you looking at?!” I snapped at the people staring at me and taking pictures.
I stood up from the floor and dusted the dirt off my dress as I picked up the bag Kira had thrown
at me.
I really loved this dress and I wanted to get it so I didn’t mind taking it back home.
When I arrived home I was furious but Donald was nowhere to be found.
“Where is he?!” I demanded.
The maids just shook their heads and trembled, looking away.
“Clueless bitches!” I snarled in anger.
I left the house and went to my family’s mansion. I was surprised to see my father in the sitting
room with a nurse.
“What’s happening?” I asked.
He smiled happily, “Your mother has just returned home after years of being in the hospital. The heart transplant was successful along with her recovery. She can now stay home with us.”
I smiled at least there was some good news today and it made me immensely happy to know that Kira lost her mother so mine could live.
“That’s good at least today wasn’t entirely a cursed day,” I said.
My father concluded with the nurse who left and then he turned to me.
“What’s wrong? Why do you look so upset?” he asked.
I bumped into Kira at the boutique when I went to buy a dress for tomorrow’s event,” I answered through gritted teeth.
My father frowned, “Twice in one day, that must have hurt.”
My scowl deepened, “You have no idea. She humiliated me today at the store.”
“How? She can’t even afford anything in that store,” my father asked puzzled.
I shrugged, “That was my thoughts exactly but to my dismay, Donald’s fucking card was declined and I haven’t been able to reach him. Guess what, Kira humiliated me and had me thrown out of the store then she bought me the dress I wanted and threw it at me. Dad, she spent a million dollars on a dress and forty thousand dollars on mine.”
My father’s eyes widened with shock, “That’s impossible. How could she have access to such an amount of money to just burn it on a single dress?”
“I don’t know! Are you sure her parents didn’t leave her something, a trust fund we don’t know about?” I asked.
My father shook his head, “No, they didn’t leave her anything, I’m certain. They died so suddenly
there was no time.”
“So how did she have the amount of money she has?” I sighed.
“I don’t know, Princess, but I’m sure she’s not as rich as you since you have the Maple Group,” he

said.
“That’s the thing, Father, I couldn’t access the Maple Group account either. I was humiliated and made a laughingstock,” I cried.
“That’s enough, princess, I’ll check the accounts now.”
My father grabbed his laptop and started going through some documents.
His face scrunched up in a frown as he pointed at something.
“Come here, Lily, you have to see this,” he said.
I went over and stared at the computer but I couldn’t understand the numbers on the screen.
I frowned, “I don’t understand anything, Daddy.”
“According to my records, there are a lot of pending transactions in Maple Group that need attending to. Until these issues have been handled you can’t use any funds in the company account,” he explained.
I shrugged, “Then let me handle it so I can have access to money and this won’t repeat itself. I wonder why Donald’s card didn’t work, though.”
“The issue is that if you attend to these pending transactions, Princess, you won’t have access to any money,” my father said.
I frowned, “You’re confusing me, Daddy.”
“Once you’ve attended to these transactions there’ll be no more money in Maple Group left,” he explained.
“W…what do you mean by that?” I asked, shocked.
My father cleared his throat as he kept tapping on the laptop.
“How could this have happened?” he muttered, “I made sure before I acted. My brother would have never let this happen.”
I got frustrated as I grabbed the laptop from him, anxiety eating deep inside me already.
“Daddy, tell me what’s happening!” I said.
“Maple Group will be bankrupt once they finish paying for the pending transactions on the ground,” he announced.
I staggered and sat down on the couch, my lips parted slightly.
“No… no… this can’t be… so there’s no money in the company? I’m handling a broke company?” I
asked.
My father stared at me with a serious expression, “No one must ever know about this. Once Donald launches his project and invests millions of dollars into Maple Group, we’ll make him and that doctor take the fall for everything and you’ll handle both companies.”
My eyes hardened and I nodded, “Yes, this is the perfect plan.”
