Chapter 18 The Family Reunion

“You look gorgeous, Miss,” Ginny said behind me.

I smiled, but I was having difficulty holding back the tears as I stared in the mirror.

I had decided to wear the Paris dress I bought earlier but opening my wardrobe and seeing the dress I designed for my mom made me cry.

I ended up redesigning it to fit me and that was what I was wearing. The dress hugged my curves and brought out my cleavage but not enough to be too much.

“Thank you so much, Ginny,” I said, smiling through the tears.

Considering what I’ve planned for today it was only normal for me to show up dressed in the outfit my mother was supposed to wear.

“He’s here,” Ginny announced, looking out the window.

I took a deep breath and walked toward the door just as the doorbell went off.

I opened the door and my breath caught in my throat. Damon was standing before me dressed in a white tuxedo. He looked incredibly handsome with his sharp features more pronounced.

“You… look good,” I settled to say.

Damon smirked, “I look incredibly handsome, love, we both know this.”

I rolled my eyes at him, “Cocky much? Why did you show up in white knowing what’s going down tonight?”

Damon shrugged, “I couldn’t complement your dazzling pink dress in a pink tuxedo now, can I?”

I chuckled as he opened the car door for me, “Did you just compliment me?”

He smirked, “Now who’s being cocky?”

The ride to his family’s house was quiet. When we pulled up in front of the massive mansion I

turned to him.

“You don’t have to do this if you’re not ready,” I found myself saying.

Damon gave me a wry smile, “Nah, we both know you want me to do this.”

I shrugged, “Yes but if you’re not ready

”

“Hush Princess, it’s been ten years. I think these people are long overdue for a reckoning,” he

said.

With those words, he drove into the compound. The security men were shocked to see him but they recognized him and let us in.

“Did you bring any gifts for them?” Damon asked me.

I giggled, “You know my gifts will arrive late.”

“Whoops, now they’ll think we’re just a bunch of freeloaders,” Damon laughed.

His hands encircled my waist as he pulled me close to his chest.

“We have to get into character now, love,” he whispered in my ear.

I stiffened in his arms but eventually I relaxed. We walked to the front of the door and the maids stared at us, puzzled.

“Family affair only unless you have an invite,” the maid said.

Damon scoffed, “Tell my father his first son is here, Damon Reeds.”

The maid stared at him with eyes wide like a saucer then she immediately bowed.

“I’m sorry, sir… young master… sir, welcome home we weren’t expecting you,” she stuttered.

Damon waved her off, “Don’t worry about it.”

Then without another word, he led me inside the house which was already abuzz with gossip and laughter as fairy lights dangled from every corner of the house.

“Are you sure about this?” Damon asked me.

I nodded and his hands encircled my waist again as we walked inside.

The sudden hush that fell upon the gathering was so that even a pindrop could be heard from

afar.

“Hello everyone, I guess I didn’t miss the family reunion,” Damon grinned.

I stared at the faces glaring at me and a coy smirk formed on my lips.

Henry was staring at me with an intense hatred, Donald had a look of confusion and shock while Lily had a look of rage and jealousy all over her.

The rest of Damon’s family looked equally shocked but more so to see him than to see me.

“Damon…” his father called out trailing off.

Damon arched his brow, “I’m back, Father, are you surprised I lasted this long?”

“What is she doing with you?” Donald asked, angrily.

Damon’s arms tightened around my waist, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

“She is my fianceé, Kira Maple,” he announced.

Donald’s fork clattered to the table as his mouth hung open. I stared at them and smirked.

Their facial expression was exactly how I knew it’d be. Lily had a hard time picking her jaw off the floor, her father was shocked while Damon’s family was equally shocked.

“When y’all are done picking your jaws off the floor, let me know so we can sit down,” I stated, smirking.
