Chapter 7 – Where Is Sophia

Lorenzo’s Pov

The fire was still burning when I dragged Renata out of the ballroom.

My lungs burned. My ears were ringing. Her dress was torn, and her makeup. had melted off, but she clung to me like I was her last breath.

I held her close as another explosion went off behind us, shaking the ground.

That chandelier could’ve sliced her in half.

She coughed into my chest. “You saved me.”

“Of course, I’d never let anything happen to you and our baby,” I said.

My eyes scanned the smoke, the chaos, the crumbling building–but I didn’t see her.

Sophia, where is she? Why wasn’t she outside yet?

She’d been here. I remembered hearing her scream my name while I held

Renata.

She’d begged for help.

I stood outside that wrecked building and watched it burn, people shouting, sirens screaming in the distance, but all I felt was heat in my chest–and not from the fire.

Where the hell was she?

I pulled out my phone and called her number. It rang once, twice, then, voicemail.

Again.

Nothing.

I sent a text:

“Come home now. You disappear and I’ll make your life worse than hell.”

It was delivered. But she didn’t read it.

I clenched my jaw and shoved the phone in my pocket.

“Bastard,” I muttered. “Ungrateful little snake.”

“Lorenzo…” Renata touched my arm. Her voice was soft, “I feel so sick.”

I ran a hand through my hair, “I have to go check if Sophia got out safely.”

“Alright. Hurry and save her, I’ll head to the hospital,” Renata said.

I quickly rushed toward the building when Renata screamed and stumbled, she almost fell if I hadn’t rushed back quickly.

I caught her in one fluid moment and held her, my heart racing in my chest.

“What’s wrong?” I asked her worriedly.

She shook her head, “No, don’t worry. I’m fine, go find Sophia.”

I frowned, at a loss of what to do. Then I hardened my face and texted one of

my men.

“Sophia is inside. Find her, I won’t have her dying a merciful death!”

Then I carried Renata bridal style and drove her to the hospital.

When I got to the hospital there were a lot of people there, probably from the

attack.

“I need a doctor!” I thundered.

Some nurses dropped what they were doing and rushed over with a stretcher. They wheeled Renata inside the emergency ward while I remained

outside.

My phone rang and I picked up the call.

“Boss,” my right–hand man, Enzo, called over the phone, “We can’t find Sophia.”

“Find her! Tear that place apart and while at it make sure you capture the people who ruined my night!” I ordered.

Shortly after the doctor came out with his chart.

“Mr. Moretti, she’s fine. She’s just a little shaken up but there’s nothing else wrong with her,” the doctor said.

“And the baby?” I asked.

“The baby is fine.”

I entered the ward and saw Renata looking pale.

“I’m sorry, I stopped you from going to rescue Sophia,” she apologized.

I gritted my teeth, “She will be found. Not even death can save her from me. I still have a lot of punishment for her.”

“I just wanted to ask now that Sophia has found out we’re married. Are we going to make it public soon?” Renata asked me.

I frowned, the thought has never crossed my mind. Fortunately, my phone beeping stopped me from answering.

It was a message from Enzo. He’s caught one of the people who was involved in the ambush.

“I have to go, baby girl, I’ll be back soon,” I said.

I left the hospital in a hurry and arrived back at what used to be my most prized location – my gallery.

Enzo was standing outside with a grim look on his face.

“We lost some people in this attack, Boss,” he said, “Three of your trusted allies.”

“Where’s the bastard you caught?” I asked.

Enzo took me to the back where the man was tied up..

“He’s one of your rival’s men,” Enzo said.

“Who sent you?” I asked calmly.

The man refused to reply and spat on my shoes.

“Go rot in hell!” he snapped.

I took the gun from Enzo and made sure the silencer was intact then I shot the man on his right leg.

As he groaned in pain I stepped on the bullet wound causing him to scream. louder in agony.

“Start talking,” I snapped.

“Your wife sent us!” he cried, “She wanted to die to also take your mistress with her.”

A low growl escaped my lips as I stared at Enzo, “Find Sophia now!”

Enzo cleared his throat, “A woman’s body was brought out earlier, burnt hevond recognition excent her ring I think it’s your wife Ross

Enzo cleared his throat, “A woman’s body was brought out earlier, burnt beyond recognition except her ring. I think it’s your wife, Boss.”

I staggered as though I’d been punched in the gut.

“No… no… she can’t die!”
