Chapter 9 – The First Arrest 

When I opened my eyes Donald was gone. I grabbed my phone and opened it. The news headlines were staring back at me. 

Letting out a sigh, I got out of bed and went downstairs. My phone beeped, it was a text message from my father asking me to come to the office. 

After a quick shower, I drove to the office. I arrived and saw the numerous reporters waiting 

outside. 

hated that even though Kira was gone she was still causing trouble. I wonder why she’s not dead yet. 

The security escorted me safely into the building and I arrived at my father’s office. This was Maple Group Headquarters, Kira’s father’s company. 

Her father had built the company and given my father scraps all these years so we were only aking what we deserved. 

Daddy,” I smiled at him. 

He wiped his brow as he took off his glasses and moved the files away from the desk. 

I’m so tired, Princess. I don’t know what else to do for the board to approve us,” he said. 

Maybe if they find out Kira is dead it will speed things up,” I said. 

He shook his head, “No! Kira mustn’t die, it will only make us more suspicious.” 

arched my brow, “Aren’t we already under suspicion?” 

I’m managing that which is why the police haven’t made any arrests yet,” he said. 

But the evidence she provided is questionable, how did she get them and where is she?” I 

ointed out. 

My father shrugged, “I don’t know, Princess, this is looking difficult. We were supposed to have otal control of this company by now with Donald and you taking sixty percent of the shares. But how we’d be lucky if we can hold onto our five percent.” 

We can’t lose to that brat!” I snapped, then groaned softly. 

My father looked at me with concern, “Be careful, Princess, the last thing I want right now is for you to have a miscarriage.” 

shrugged, “It wouldn’t be such a bad thing, Daddy.” 

My father was mortified and I continued speaking. 

‘I mean we could set Troy and Donald so they take the fall. The only reason I’m with him is because he’s obsessed with me and he would do anything for me but now he hasn’t gotten us the company so he’s not so useful anymore,” I conceded. 

My father smiled, “Princess, I love that you have a plan but we can’t be too hasty. We need to tread carefully. Keep working with Donald, don’t forget he’s got strong connections.” 

I shrugged, “Donald was supposed to use this business to make his father proud, I doubt their relationship has improved now.” 

3:25 pm £ 

“Regardless, we have to be careful. Now, I need you with me in the boardroom. Turn on your charm, let’s see if we can get what we want,” he said. 

I smiled and followed him. The moment we entered the boardroom, my face changed and was filled with sadness. 

“Where is Kira, Henry?” one of the board members asked. 

Before my father could reply, I started sobbing profusely. The board members were all at a loss as they stared at me. 

My father let out a weary sigh, “Now you’ve upset her.” 

‘What’s going on?” another asked. 

‘When we got home we couldn’t find Kira. We don’t know what’s happened to her and Lily keep blaming herself for not staying home with her,” my father said.

Stupid! She was your cousin, how could you leave her alone?” I sobbed. 

One woman gently reached out to me and held my hands to stop me from hurting myself. I saw

Please, calm down, Lily, I’m sure your cousin will be found,” she said.

Despite what’s happening, we can’t do any handover until we’ve seen Kira,” he said. 

My father nodded, “I know that, which is why I was wondering if perhaps it’d be wise for me tc ake over temporarily so I can handle the company until Kira returns.” 

They all exchanged glances and I finally spoke with a broken voice. 

I know everyone is confused about the video but you have to understand that this is the work of our rivals. They’re trying to ruin my family after they ruined my uncle’s family,” I wailed. 

The board looked uncomfortable and one of them cleared their throat. 

I guess Henry can take over temporarily, what’s the harm in that,” he said. 

Others seemed to contemplate and they all arrived at the same conclusion that my father should take over until Kira returns.

was still hiding my grin as they tried to process the paperwork for my father when his assistant an inside panting, her face flushed. 

‘I tried to stop them, Sir,” she gasped. 

The door opened and five uniformed policemen stood before us, 

The board members gasped as my eyes widened slightly, my heartbeat picking up speed. 

“W…what is going on?” I stuttered. 

“Mr. Henry Maple, you’re under arrest on suspicion of attempted murder,” one of them said. 

I almost collapsed as my father’s face paled. The policemen handcuffed him and I stood up immediately. 

Chapter 9 – The First Arrest 

“Whose murder? My father is innocent, he hasn’t done anything!” I snapped. 

“He tried to kill his niece, Kira Maple. The men he hired are currently sitting in prison waiting for him,” the inspector said. 

I stumbled backward, my eyes widening with horror.
