Ch. His Infidelity 10 His Infidelity 10

10

The next day, I arrived at the project launch event with Haven by my side, looking triumphant. This project was RH Limited’s biggest undertaking in years-one into which I had poured every ounce of my time, energy, and ambition.

If the launch was successful, it would cement RH Limited as the undisputed number one company in all of Missoula.

The thought alone made my eyes gleam with anticipation.

This launch was a joint venture between the Hetheringtons and Ericssons.

Thanks to Willow, RH Limited had secured a larger stake, though it was the Ericssons who had contributed the majority of the funding.

Naturally, as the only heir of the Ericssons-and my legal wife-Willow was expected to attend the event.

had assumed that no matter how upset she was, Willow would never miss an occasion of this magnitude.

But as the minutes ticked down to the start of the press conference, she still hadn’t shown up.

Haven’s POV

A flicker of smug satisfaction lit up my eyes. Honestly, it wasn’t that complicated.

Willow was probably off sulking somewhere, throwing one of her little tantrums. Typical. And if she really didn’t show up… Well, that just opened the door for me.

tilted my head, putting on my most concerned voice as I leaned in and said, “Reed, what are we supposed to do now? How could Willow pull something like this on such an important day? If she actually skips it, how are we supposed to explain that to everyone?”

let my gaze slide deliberately in his direction, making sure the implication was clear.

3ut, damn it. He was too wrapped up in his own stress to catch the hint.

Reed’s POV

yanked out my phone and called Kade.

‘What the hell is going on?” I snapped, barely holding it together. “Didn’t I tell you to find Willow? The launch is about to start-why the fuck isn’t she here yet?”

His voice came through, shaky and useless.

‘Sir, I went to every place she might be, just like you said, but I couldn’t find her anywhere. And her phone… It’s been off the entire time.”

I clenched my jaw, rage spiking in my chest.

“You couldn’t find her?” I barked. “She only ever goes to a handful of places, Kade. A handful. And you couldn’t track her down? Her number’s off, so what-you just gave up? Ever think of trying to call from a different number?!”

By the time I finished, I was practically shouting into the phone. The fury was boiling over, too hot to contain. But underneath it-underneath all that anger-was something worse.

That uneasy pit in my stomach had been there since yesterday. Since the second Willow walked away from me without looking back.

And still, I’d told myself she wouldn’t really leave. That she loved me too much to actually go through with it.

I believed she’d never walk away over this.

But now? Here I was. Now it felt like that lie was unraveling right in front of me.

My hand tightened around the phone until my knuckles ached. Almost without thinking, I opened her contact, my thumb hovering over the call button.

She had no right to do this. No matter how furious she was, she didn’t get to pull this kind of stunt. Not today.

I was ready to talk. To explain everything-Haven, the recent misunderstandings, all of it.

But Willow had a role to play. She was my wife. And this project involved her family’s name just as much as mine.

I was about to hit the call button, but the host announced the start of the event.

Damn it. I had no choice.

I shoved the phone back in my pocket, jaw locked, shoulders tight, and walked onto that stage. Before stepping out, I told Kade and my secretary, “As soon as she shows up, you tell me. Immediately.”

Haven’s POV

This wasn’t supposed to happen. Even with Willow out of the picture, I still wasn’t given the chance to on stage?!

I stared at Reed’s back. He walked away without so much as a glance in my direction!

Slowly, I felt my face tighten, my expression curdling into something ugly. The resentment was right there under my skin-hell yeah, I was seething.
