I stood at the podium in a sharp suit, striking and composed under the spotlight.
I spoke with confidence and flair, passionately declaring that the project would be a resounding
success.
But just then, my phone rang.
It was a bit of an awkward moment, but I still answered with visible excitement. In my mind, it could only be Willow calling.
“Hello? Willow, don’t say anything yet, just come over first-”
Before I could finish, an anxious voice shouted on the other end of the line.
“Sir! Reps from Ericsson Ventures just came in-they’re pulling the investment! They said they’re terminating partnerships with us! They’re already headed to the press conference to announce it publicly! You need to end this right away!”
“What? What nonsense are you talking about?” I barked, my expression darkening. “Why would Ericsson Ventures back out?”
I no longer cared about maintaining appearances. Panic overtook me as I shouted into the phone.
But before I could get an answer, a group from Ericsson Ventures had already arrived at the
venue.
A man at the front stepped forward and addressed me calmly. “Sir, he’s not speaking nonsense. We are, in fact, withdrawing our investment. That’s the directive given to us by the CEO.”
My eyes burned with fury as I stared at the man.
| recognized him—he was one of Ericsson Ventures’s managers. I had met him during my visits to the company.
‘You’re spouting lies,” I growled. “Willow is my wife. Why would she pull out now, of all times-on such a crucial day?”
I clenched my fists, my voice rising. “Get her on the phone right now! Tell her I can explain everything. But this isn’t the time or place for her bullshits!”
As soon as I finished, the media swarmed forward, cameras flashing and microphones raised.
My jaw tightened. The flashing lights flickered across my face like sparks of humiliation and
rage.
The manager smirked slightly, his tone laced with cold amusement. “Sir, Ericsson Ventures began withdrawing our funds seven days ago. As for your marriage to President Ericsson-you’re free to ask her about it yourself. But whether you get the answer you want… I wouldn’t hold my breath.”
“What the hell do you mean by that?” I froze, momentarily stunned. Then my fury surged again, more violent this time.
“Even if you’re one of her company’s managers, this is slander! If Willow hears about this, she
won’t let you off!”
I stared them down, eyes searching their faces for any sign of deceit.
But the managers only chuckled.
“If you have questions, you’re welcome to take it up with her, sir. We’re just following orders.”
“And just so we’re clear-it’s not only this project. Ericsson Ventures won’t be making any business with RH Limited in the future either.”
“We’ve delivered all of President Ericsson’s instructions. Now, if you’ll excuse us.”
With that, they turned and walked out of the press conference.
I stood rooted to the spot, my face ashen. The news of the investment withdrawal was already making its way through the company. Reporters were broadcasting the disaster in real time.
The project was finished. Completely ruined.
The realization hit me like a wrecking ball.
With a roar of frustration, I slammed my fist into the wall.
Only now did it dawn on me-Willow hadn’t been bluffing.
She was truly furious. And she was done with me.
She’d never gone this far before, no matter what I had done in the past. She always swallowed mer anger. Always forgave.
She knew how hard I had worked to keep RH Limited afloat during its most difficult days.
She knew the company was everything to me.
And yet, she hadn’t hesitated. She’d pulled the investment at the worst possible moment, delivering a brutal blow to the one thing I cared most about.
The weight of it crashed down on me. I felt like I was about to fall apart.
