Reed’s POV

I pulled out my phone and tapped on Willow’s number. Took a deep breath, hesitated for a moment, then finally pressed the call button.

I waited with bated breath, hoping-almost praying-that she would answer.

But all I got in return was the cold, mechanical tone of a busy signal.

“We’re sorry, the number you dialed is currently unavailable.”

I stared at my phone in disbelief. Redialed. Again. And again.

But no matter how many times I tried, Willow never picked up.

My brows furrowed. My chest tightened.

‘What’s going on?” I muttered under my breath. “Why isn’t she answering? Willow never ignores my calls…”

Panic started to creep in. The kind that clawed at the edges of reason.

Over the years, there had been times when Willow got mad-times when she’d deliberately avoid ne. But even then, if I called her, she would always pick up. No matter what she was doing, she would answer.

This-this was the first time she’d completely cut me off.

How could this be? How could something like this happen?

My heart dropped. Something felt wrong. Truly wrong.

shot to my feet, ready to leave and find her.

Just as I reached for the doorknob, the door opened from the other side, and Haven walked in.

n just half a month, she looked like a completely different woman.

Her clothes, her jewelry, even the way she carried herself-it had all changed. She was decked out in designer brands now, shining from head to toe with extravagant elegance.

She spotted me about to leave and immediately stepped forward to block my path.

‘Reed,” she said sweetly, “why don’t we go shopping today? Me and the baby-we’ve both got a ‘ew things we want to buy.”

t was an excuse she’d used countless times in the past two weeks.

And while she never seemed to tire of it, I was already long past fed up-especially now, when all

could think about was finding Willow as soon as possible.

didn’t have time for Haven’s games like this.

A look of irritation crossed my face, and Haven, noticing the shift, loosened a button on her blouse. Her eyes glimmered with seduction as she slinked up to me, her body moving like a snake coiling around its prey.

She pressed her crimson lips against my cheek in a soft, teasing kiss.

“I’ve been practicing some new moves,” she whispered, breath hot against my skin. “You might like them.”

Her lips began to trail lower, but I didn’t respond the way I used to.

This time, I shoved her away.

“Enough,” I said sharply. “I don’t have time for this.”

She staggered back, stunned.

“You said you wanted to apologize to Willow, didn’t you?” I continued coldly. “You even said-if it would make her forgive me-you were willing to get rid of the baby.”

My eyes were sharp.

“Well, I’m going to find her. And once I do, you’re going to follow through on your promise. You’ll apologize. No matter what it takes-you’ll get her to come back. You’ll make her forgive me.” Haven’s POV

I blinked, frozen. It took me a second to fully register what he’d just said. That promise? I never meant a word of it. It was just a tactic to buy time. There was no way I would actually go that far just to bring Willow back. In fact, I was counting on her staying far, far away-and gone for good. If that happened, Reed’s wife would be me.

And I had been succeeding, bit by bit.

Reed had clearly been falling deeper under my spell, so absorbed in my tenderness that he barely even remembered Willow anymore.

So why this sudden change?

I couldn’t understand it. But forcing a sweet smile, I tried to play along.

“Reed, of course I meant every word I said back then. I just… don’t you think it’s too soon to go begging her now?”

I gently took his arm, speaking softly, like I was trying to coax a child.

“Maybe she’s just angry. Maybe she’s jealous-that’s why she’s doing all this. If you rush to find her now, won’t that just prove her tactics are working?”

“And if this becomes a habit…” I added, “if she decides that every time she’s upset, she can just run away-Reed, will you really be able to handle that?”
