Willow’s POV

After getting into the car, I found myself staring at Dyson’s profile as he drove, focused and calm That familiar side view of his face brought back a flood of memories.

Dyson and I had grown up together. We even had a childhood engagement.

If it hadn’t been for what happened back then, we probably would’ve been married by now.

We might even have two or three kids already.

He had always been sharp-tongued, but strangely, I was the only one he ever went easy on.

But after I met Reed, that exception disappeared too.

I had sensed Dyson’s feelings for me for a long time. After all, we were childhood friends, and he was close to my parents too.

If he ever found out that my parents were killed because of Reed, I had no doubt-Dyson would turn the car around and go kill him right now.

I knew Reed deserved to die. But I didn’t want to drag anyone else into this mess.

That thought dimmed the light in my eyes.

As if sensing my shift in mood, Dyson spoke at just the right moment, his voice low but firm.

“Willow, you know what kind of person I am. I don’t mind if you throw some of your burdens onto

me.”

He glanced at me briefly.

“But if you choose to carry everything on your own, I’ll think you look down on me.”

He paused, his voice deepening.

“I already know what happened to Uncle and Auntie. How could it be just a coincidence? That the car hit you all-how convenient. Has the real culprit really been thrown in jail by Reed?

“If you don’t want to investigate, then let me do it. I can be the knife in your hand.”

His gaze was unwavering, completely serious. I knew he meant every word.

My vision blurred as tears surged up without warning. I couldn’t hold them back anymore.

I didn’t have many loved ones left in this world. At that moment, the bond I shared with Dyson- our years growing up together-felt more real, more precious than ever.

When he saw me break down and start crying after what he said, Dyson looked worried.

He quickly pulled over to the side of the road and reached out, gently wiping away the tears on my cheeks with slow, patient hands.

“Alright, alright,” he coaxed softly, voice tender. “If you don’t want to tell me, then don’t. I’ll wait. Whenever you’re ready, I’ll be here to listen. Just cry, okay? I know you’ve been holding it all in.”

He continued dabbing at my tears, his expression full of concern and heartache.

And then, I couldn’t hold it in any longer.

I threw my arms around his waist and sobbed against him, letting everything out.

When the storm of emotions finally passed, I slowly sat back up. One look at Dyson’s now-wrinkled and tear-soaked shirt made my cheeks flush with embarrassment.

I hadn’t expected to completely break down like that. What surprised me even more was that Dyson hadn’t said a single sharp word-none of the barbs he used to toss so easily.

Seeing the flush on my face, Dyson didn’t tease me. Instead, he looked me in the eyes, his tone more serious than ever.

“Willow, you should know I’ve been in love with you for many years.”

He took a breath, then added quietly, “Because I’ve loved you for so long, and waited for you for just as long… if there’s ever anything I can do for you-anything at all-just say the word. Or don’t Just do it.”

His eyes stared at me. “I’m more than willing to be used by you.”

I stared at him, completely speechless for a moment, my heart twisting with emotion.
