Willow’s POV
I truly did think that way.
Although I had no love left for Reed-only a deep, searing hatred-I couldn’t deny the years I’d poured into that relationship. I had once loved him with all my heart. I had given everything I could.
Even now, after being betrayed so thoroughly, I couldn’t bring myself to open up to someone new. The fear of getting hurt again had rooted itself too deeply.
I thought Dyson would be upset or at least disappointed. But instead, he simply looked at me and smiled gently.
“Willow,” he said softly, “I understand your concerns. I won’t force you to accept me. I just wantec you to know how I feel.”
He let out a bitter laugh, his eyes lowering for a moment. “I don’t want to miss this chance. I already lost you once because I wasn’t brave enough. If I let fear get in the way again, I might lose you forever.”
“I want to take this opportunity…” he whispered, “to be with you.”
His words left me stunned.
The Dyson I used to know had never expressed such intense emotions. Never once.
He told me that he had fallen for me when we were still kids but because of his reserved nature and the complicated dynamics of his family, he had never dared to show it. Instead, he used all sorts of odd, roundabout ways to hide his true feelings.
Eventually, I met Reed.
And Dyson missed his chance-five years of it.
But he never gave up.
He believed that if he just kept holding on, maybe, just maybe, there would still be a future for us. But if he gave up, that future would vanish completely.
So even throughout the five years I was married to Reed, Dyson had continued to watch over me ‘rom a distance, quietly, without disturbing my life.
Now, he’d finally found his moment.
looked at him, and before I could stop myself, the question slipped out.
‘Dyson… why do you love me? Why are you so good to me?”
He froze, a flicker of emotion darkening his eyes-something tender and painful all at once.
‘Is it really that strange… that I would love you? You’re such a wonderful person, Willow. Why shouldn’t I love you?”
‘There are so many people better than me,” I murmured, my voice barely audible. “More successful, more beautiful… You loved me before, but in all these years, have you really not met anyone better than me?”
Dyson gazed straight into my eyes, unwavering.
“No,” he said firmly. “Because once I found the person I believed to be the best… I never saw the need to look again.”
“I fell in love with you. That hasn’t changed. It won’t change. In my eyes, you are the best there is,” he explained.
As he spoke, his eyes remained locked on mine-clear, earnest, utterly sincere.
I felt something stir deep within me. I was touched beyond words, but a sudden ache bloomed in my chest.
Did I… truly deserve a love as pure as this?
Could I ever return it?
I’d never thought of myself as someone unworthy of love, but compared to Dyson-he was no less remarkable. In many ways, he was even better than me.
Would his family really approve of someone like me?
And while it was true Dyson’s love was genuine and had lasted for so many years, I had learned the hard way that the depth of one’s love in the beginning didn’t guarantee it would last.
Reed had once loved me deeply, too.
If I gave my heart again-if I trusted again-what would I do if I got hurt again?
These thoughts tangled and churned in my mind.
In the end, I looked at Dyson with a complex expression and said slowly, “You can pursue me… But I can’t promise that I’ll forgive you-not now, maybe not even in a few years.”
“If you can accept that…” I muttered, “then go ahead.”
I lowered my gaze as soon as the words left my lips, bracing myself for his response, unsure of
what I’d hear.
Just as the silence began to grow heavy, his voice reached me, steady and warm.
‘I can’t promise that I’ll love you forever,” he said. “But you must not lose the courage to love again.”
you
In an ever so gentle voice, he continued, “You are amazing. You’re worth loving. My love for s mine to carry. If you’re willing to accept me… then we’ll begin something new.”
‘Maybe our relationship won’t always be passionate. Maybe it’ll settle into something quiet and steady.” He shrugged. “But I promise you this-if you choose me, I will never betray you.”
