Reed’s eyes widened in shock. Suddenly, he shoved me aside and rushed down the stairs. He bent down carefully, scooping Haven into his arms. Panic was written all over his face. “Haven, are you okay? Does your belly hurt? I’ll take you to the hospital right now.”
Haven clutched at his arm with trembling fingers, crying out in pain as she pointed at me. “Reed, I don’t know why Willow pushed me, but… my belly hurts so much…”
I stared at her in disbelief.
That bitch had clearly fallen on her own!
Reed turned to me, eyes burning with rage.
“Willow!” he snapped. “Do you even realize what you’ve done?”
I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself.
“It wasn’t me,” I said. “There are cameras here. You can just check the footage.”
But Haven, still weeping moments ago, suddenly froze. Then she grabbed Reed’s arm, her voice shaky with guilt.
“Reed, don’t fight with her because of me… Let’s just let it go. Maybe… maybe this baby really wasn’t meant to be…” Her voice cracked, and she collapsed into his arms, sobbing harder.
I stayed silent. I just looked at Reed, refusing to look away.
He avoided my gaze, his jaw tightening. Then he carried Haven in his arms.
“I trust Haven,” he said with finality. “There’s no need to check the footage. Willow, you’ve gon too far. If anything happens to the baby… I swear I won’t forgive you!”
From the side, Helena stood watching with frosty eyes full of disgust.
She had been standing in a spot where she could clearly see that I hadn’t pushed Haven.
But still, she chose to side with her.
With a wave of her hand, she motioned to the butler.
“Get her out of my sight,” she ordered. “She’s nothing but a curse! She comes back and nearly kills my grandchild? Throw her into the cold storage. Let that bad energy freeze out of her!”
I struggled with all my strength as the butler grabbed me. I turned toward the front door and shouted at the man standing there.
“Reed! I said I didn’t push her! Why won’t you just check the security footage?”
He hesitated, one foot pausing mid-step, as if he might finally turn around.
But just then, Haven let out a pitiful moan in his arms.
Instantly, everything else seemed to vanish from his mind. He rushed out the door with her, not even sparing me a glance.
And me? In the end, I was thrown into the cold storage like trash-no hesitation, no mercy.
The heavy metal door slammed shut behind me.
Darkness swallowed everything, and chilling air seeped straight into my bones.
I curled up tightly, trying to preserve what little warmth I had left.
A dull ache flared in my lower abdomen-the lingering pain from my recent miscarriage.
Reed had forgotten, or maybe he simply didn’t care, that I’d lost our baby only a few days ago.
He used to promise he’d always put me first.
But now, his heart had long since been taken by Haven.
Tears streamed down my face.
And in the final moment before I closed my eyes, I could almost see the Reed I used to love.
