Chapter 13

Even though Liam had handled most of the wedding arrangements, Evelyn was utterly exhausted.

After freshening up, she lay on the wedding bed, nerves fluttering at the thought of the impending wedding night.

When Liam emerged from the shower, his gaze burned as it landed on Evelyn, draped across the white silk. She had countless questions for him, but now was clearly not the time.

“Turn off the lights…” Evelyn stammered.

“Hmm.” Liam left a warm amber bedside lamp glowing before leaning down to claim his bride with a searing kiss.

The bed creaked rhythmically, the movements unrelenting.

After what felt like an eternity, Evelyn’s soft whimpers broke through the haze. “N–no more…”

“Be good… just one last time,” Liam coaxed huskily.

“O–okay then…” Too easily persuaded, Evelyn surrendered again.

It wasn’t until dawn’s first light that the newlyweds finally stilled. Liam carried his spent bride to the bathroom for a quick clean–up before they collapsed into sleep.

Meanwhile, the trio arrived at the wedding venue via private jet only to find the banquet hall deserted. Realizing they were too late, they sped to the Sinclair Estate.

The imposing gates barred their entry, tight security making intrusion impossible. Forced to wait in their car, each passing second stretched into agony. Never had time moved so sluggishly.

By sunrise, no members of the Sinclair household had emerged except for kitchen staff on supply runs. Seizing their chance, the three men tailed a grocery vehicle, intercepting it around a blind curve. After tense negotiations, the frightened servant led them inside.

No sooner had they stepped onto the manicured lawns than alarms blared across the estate.

Evelyn stirred awake to the shrill warning sirens. Annoyed, she kicked at the arms encircling her.

“What’s happening?”

“Intruders.” Liam pressed a kiss to her temple. “Sleep. I’ll handle it.”

But Evelyn’s drowsiness had fled. She washed up, grimacing at the mirror’s reflection of her thoroughly marked skin. “Christ, was my husband part vampire?”

A high–necked blouse hid most evidence of the night’s activities–except where it didn’t. Giving up, she descended the stairs to find three familiar faces restrained in the foyer.

“What are you doing here?”

Sebastian, Julian and Nathaniel’s heads snapped up. Their eyes locked onto the visible love bites peeking above Evelyn’s collar, and something inside them shattered.

Whirling toward Liam, their murderous glares promised slow dismemberment,

The Sinclair heir ignored them completely, striding to guide Evelyn to the sofa. She shot him a glare that clearly blamed him for her soreness. Unrepentant, Liam rubbed his nose. “Hungry?”

“Yeah.” She gestured at their unwanted guests.

“They kidnapped our kitchen staff to break in. Security assumed they were burglars.”

“Release them. They’re… like brothers to me.”

The word “brothers” lanced through the trio sharper than any blade. As guards loosened restraints, they surged forward–only to be

“Evelyn,” Sebastian pleaded hoarsely, “you can’t just marry someone out of spite.”

“Come home with us,” Julian urged.

Nathaniel’s jaw worked. “We’ll overlook… this. Pretend it never happened.”

Liam’s fury ignited, but Evelyn’s raised hand silenced him. After a reassuring glance at her husband, she turned icy eyes toward the

interlopers.

“Sebastian. Julian. Nathaniel. Your arrogance astounds me.” Her laugh held no mirth. “You think I’d chain myself to a man for life just to provoke you?”

“Whether you ‘overlook‘ this or not means less than nothing to me. Who the hell do you three think you are?” Her voice dropped to a

venomous whisper. “You’re not even worthy of my contempt.”

Taking Liam’s arm, she headed toward breakfast. Her husband’s expression radiated smug satisfaction as he signaled security.

The last thing heard before the doors slammed shut was a broken cry of “Evelyn—”

Then only silence.
