Chapter 16
Ever since discovering Liam’s long–held feelings for her, Evelyn had been wholeheartedly reciprocating his love.
The newlyweds were inseparable, their affection growing deeper by the day.
There was just one… issue.
Though Evelyn had been married three times in her past life, those unions had been in name only–she’d never experienced true marital intimacy.
Now, married to Liam, she found herself relentlessly pursued well into the night.
They said the well never ran dry–only the bucket. Whether Liam was exhausted or not remained unclear, but Evelyn certainly had reached her limit.
When she instituted a strict “once per day” rule, he stretched that single session for hours–until she finally banished him from their bedroom.
Pillow clutched to his chest, Liam stood pitifully outside the locked door. “Sweetheart, I was wrong. I’ll behave. Please forgive me just this once?”
Evelyn wavered at his pleading tone–until remembering the last time she’d relented. She hadn’t left the bedroom the entire next day.
Hardening her resolve, she called through the door, “Sleep in the guest room. I’m going to bed–don’t disturb me.”
Seeing his dramatics had failed, Liam obediently trudged to his study to catch up on work–only to sneak back two hours later with a spare key, sliding into bed to wrap around his wife.
Separate bedrooms? Absolutely not. Nothing jeopardized marital harmony faster than sleeping apart. Besides, only with Evelyn in his
arms could he truly rest.
When Evelyn woke at dawn to find a certain heated part pressed insistently against her, she realized she’d been too lenient.
A well–aimed kick sent Liam tumbling to the floor as she marched to the bathroom.
“Darling, why must you always kick me out of bed?” Rubbing sleep from his eyes, Liam decided his wife’s recent temper must stem from PMS. Certainly couldn’t be his fault.
“Let’s visit Mistwood Springs today,” he suggested later, nuzzling her neck. “I’ll give you a proper massage.” His satisfied grin widened as Evelyn’s irritation melted against him.
After breakfast, the couple departed for the hot springs resort. Evelyn paused amidst the elegant bamboo groves to snap a photo, posting it to social media without thought.
Three phones pinged simultaneously across the city.
The image showed Evelyn’s hand engulfed in Liam’s larger one as they strolled through sun–dappled bamboo. The tranquility
radiating from the photo was palpable.
Within minutes, assistants were scrambling to identify the location; IV drips were abandoned, cars summoned-
And Daphne, returning just then, dropped her parcels to chase after the trio.
By the time the group arrived at Mistwood Springs hours later, Evelyn and Liam had already finished their soak and were dining.
“You absolute scoundrel,” Evelyn hissed, cheeks flaming as she recalled the… activities in the thermal pools. “You call this relaxation?”
Liam’s heart itched under Evelyn’s glare, but he knew better than to test his luck–unless he wanted to spend another night banished
from their bedroom.
“Sweetheart,” he murmured, sliding a perfectly cut steak toward her, “I’m thoroughly chastened. Don’t stay angry on an empty stomach–you must be exhausted.”
Evelyn snatched the fork and viciously bit into the meat, chewing with exaggerated ferocity as she maintained her death stare.
What she believed to be a terrifying display only made Liam’s chest tighten with affection. Evelyn’s pouting was downright lethal–to his self–control, not his dignity.
He fed her bite after bite until she finally pushed the plate away. Only then did he turn to his own meal, hiding a smile behind his
napkin.
It was this scene that greeted Sebastian, Julian and Nathaniel when they finally located the couple—Evelyn gazing at her husband with undisguised adoration as he ate, their shared contentment forming an impenetrable bubble of happiness.
No room for intruders.-
No space for ghosts of the past.
Just two souls, perfectly entwined.
