Chapter 21
The two men waiting outside the emergency room were visibly tense, their minds in turmoil.
They had originally planned to distance themselves from Daphne, but now she had suffered severe injuries for their sake.
“Julian, Nathaniel, guess what I just found on the surveillance footage?” Julian, who had arrived late, wore an expression of utter disbelief.
“What?” The other two looked up at him simultaneously.
“This car crash was premeditated!”
“By who?” All their previous resentment toward Daphne vanished at the thought of her lying in a pool of blood. Now, all they felt was
heartache.
“The driver fled, and he hasn’t been caught yet. But the bodyguards found his phone at the scene. There was a message sent to Evelyn. See for yourselves.”
Their eyes locked onto the familiar phone number, along with the message: “Don’t worry, Mrs. Sinclair. I’ll make sure the job is done right. Just remember our agreement.”
“Evelyn?” Sebastian stood frozen, unable to utter anything beyond her name.
“No way. This has to be fake.” Nathaniel threw the phone away in anger, as if refusing to look at it would make the truth disappear.
“I can’t believe it either, so I’m going to confront Evelyn. Are you two coming?” Julian could hardly fathom that Evelyn would do something like this to them.
“Let’s go!”
Just as they were about to leave, the operating room doors swung open, and Daphne was wheeled out.
“The patient is stable. She just needs rest,” the doctor said before walking away.
The three men stared at Daphne’s pale face on the hospital bed, their eyes filled with sorrow.
Perhaps due to the light anesthesia, Daphne slowly opened her eyes. Seeing the three of them gathered around her, she managed a weak smile, her eyes curving into crescents. “I’m so glad… you’re all okay.”
Their hearts clenched. Even in this state, she was still thinking of them. Their resolve to get justice for her hardened further.
“Daphne, rest now. We found something at the scene that might be linked to Evelyn. We’re going to ask her about it.”
“Mrs. Sinclair?” Daphne’s eyes widened in confusion, as if she couldn’t comprehend why Evelyn would be involved.
“We think she might have orchestrated this crash.”
“Why would Mrs. Sinclair do such a thing?” Daphne’s voice trembled with disbelief.
“Just focus on recovering. We’ll handle this.”
“Okay… but please be careful. I’ll worry if you get hurt.” Her cheeks flushed slightly as she averted her gaze.
The three gave her a reassuring pat on the head before leaving.
Once they were gone, Daphne’s sweet expression vanished. She stared at the door, a cold smirk twisting her lips. “Sebastian, Julian, Nathaniel… go and turn against your beloved Evelyn. The best outcome would be if you never spoke to her again. That’s the only way my position will be secure.”
She pulled out her phone and texted the driver, “Stay hidden. Don’t get caught.”
The thought of the four of them tearing each other apart filled her with glee. The pain from her injuries even seemed to fade.
Meanwhile, the trio arrived at the Sinclair Estate–only to be stopped at the gates once again. This time, they didn’t wait passively.
In a divided village, a young man from the lower village falls for his childhood friend.
They bombarded Evelyn’s phone with calls from different numbers and even tried to force their way in by car.
Finally, an exasperated Evelyn came out to meet them–with Liam and a squad of bodyguards in tow. Given how unhinged the three looked, Liam wasn’t taking any chances.
“Evelyn, do you really hate us that much?” Sebastian demanded the moment she appeared.
Evelyn, completely baffled, had no idea what was happening.
“We made one mistake, and you’d throw away decades of friendship just to see us dead?” Julian’s voice cracked with pain at the thought of Evelyn plotting to kill them.
“Evelyn, you’ve truly let us down.” Nathaniel’s gaze was heavy with disappointment.
Evelyn hadn’t even spoken a word, yet they were already slamming accusations onto her.
“Didn’t I tell you not to bother me again?” she said coldly. “What the hell are you barking about now?”
