Chapter 22
“Daphne is still lying in the hospital–how can you be so heartless as to say such things?”
“Evelyn, we could overlook you hiring someone to hit us, but hurting Daphne is unforgivable. You have to-”
After listening for a while, Evelyn finally understood why they had come.
She genuinely wondered if all three of them were complete idiots.
“Are you all brain–dead? Can’t you see this is just a cheap frame–up?” She turned to Liam. “Can you track down that driver?”
“Mm.” With a nod, he ordered his men to scour the city.
Then she faced the trio again, her voice dripping with disdain. “I wasn’t even going to bother with you and Daphne. Sure, she’s been stirring the pot, but the real problem is you three–blindly believing every word she says without a shred of critical thinking.”
She pulled out her phone, unblocked them, and created a group chat. After dumping a pile of evidence inside, she left the group and re–blocked them. “Take a good look at what your precious Daphne has been up to.”
Their phones buzzed incessantly. As they opened the messages, their expressions darkened with every second.
The files contained surveillance footage from the Caldwell estate–clips of Daphne deliberately “tripping” and getting “hurt” in front of Evelyn whenever the men were nearby. Each time they rushed to her aid, she’d whisper insinuations, painting Evelyn as the villain.
The videos were damning. Every fall, every tear–all staged.
The final clip showed the very same thugs who had once “ambushed” them at the academy. But here, they were bowing to Daphne like
obedient dogs. It was clear they knew her. They worked for her.
Their entire relationship had been built on a lie.
Before they could fully process it, Liam’s men reported back.
“Let’s go. I’ll take you to meet the driver.”
Dazed, the three followed them to the car.
The moment they arrived, the driver threw himself at their feet, kowtowing frantically. “I–I was desperate! I owed gambling debts! That woman promised me money–I didn’t know she’d-!”
Sebastian shoved a photo of Daphne in his face. “Her?”
“Yes! It was her!” The driver pulled out his phone, showing their exchanges–Daphne’s cold instructions, her mocking remarks about
how easy it was to manipulate them.
Humiliation burned through them. In a fit of rage, they took it out on the driver before turning to Evelyn, shamefaced. “We’re sorry.”
For the first time, the apology was sincere. They promised never to harass her again and left.
As Evelyn watched them go, one thought echoed in her mind-
As long as they remained in their positions, the trouble would never end.
She forwarded the evidence to the heads of their families. Her parents would handle the rest.
Back at the hospital, the three men stared at Daphne, peacefully asleep in her bed.
A call summoned their bodyguards.
They dragged her to a newly purchased villa–originally bought for convenience, now repurposed.
Daphne woke to rough hands gagging her, a hood yanked over her head.
When the blindfold was removed, she found herself in a dim, basement–like room.
In a divided village, a young man from the lower village falls for his childhood friend.
And seated before her–three very familiar faces.
“Sebastian? Julian? Nathaniel? What’s going on?” She had just “saved” them–shouldn’t they be worshipping her?
Unless…
No. They couldn’t know. Not this quickly.
“Daphne.” Nathaniel’s voice was ice. “You’ll want to see this before you speak.”
A screen flickered to life, replaying every betrayal–Evelyn’s footage, the driver’s confession.
Daphne’s blood ran cold.
