Ch. Ch 3 Three Husbands, One love it wasn’t me Ch 3
Chapter 3
Enduring the pain, Evelyn went to the hospital to have her wounds treated. As she picked up the prescription from the doctor and headed to the pharmacy, she caught sight of familiar figures in the neighboring ward.
Sebastian, Julian, and Nathaniel stood guard outside Daphne’s room, their eyes filled with unconcealed anguish.
“I’ve said it before–Daphne is too soft–hearted. Keeping her in the Caldwell Family will only bring her endless suffering. Once the marriage alliance is settled, no matter what, we have to find a way to get her out. I don’t want to see her hurt ever again.”
“Now that our parents know our true feelings lie with Daphne, we must ensure her safety. So, no matter who Evelyn chooses, the one selected must agree to the marriage without complaint. Only then will the family spare Daphne.”
Evelyn silently watched the scene, her heart wrenching with sudden, sharp pain.
So, this was the reason they had agreed to the marriage in her past life, despite not loving her.
They believed they were sacrificing their own happiness to protect the one they truly loved.
But what they had destroyed was her life.
Lowering her head, she laughed until tears spilled from her eyes.
They could rest easy this time–none of them would have to sacrifice anything.
After steadying her emotions, she wiped her tears and turned to leave, only for her phone to ring.
The sudden chime startled the three men inside the ward. They pushed the door open and froze when they saw Evelyn.
“What are you doing here? Did you come to apologize to Daphne?”
“How long have you been here? Did you hear anything just now?”
“Why are you so badly hurt? What happened?”
Facing their rapid–fire questions, Evelyn answered each one calmly.
“These injuries? They’re from when you shoved me aside to save Daphne. I came to the hospital to get treated, not to apologize— because she was the one who threw scalding coffee at me first, and I only pushed her away in response. As for running into you? Just an
unfortunate coincidence.”
Hearing her account, the three men fell silent for a few seconds, their expressions shifting into something complicated.
Recalling the scene when they had rushed into the room earlier, Julian, ever the impulsive one, spoke first. “Daphne didn’t mean to spill the coffee–her hands were weak from the injuries. Don’t take it to heart. When we saw all the blood on the floor, we thought she might be in mortal danger. We were just… overwhelmed. Sorry.”
Sebastian, now calmer, added, “Earlier, we weren’t blaming you. We just felt sorry for Daphne and spoke up for her.
Nathaniel nodded. “We grew up together. To us, you’ve always been the most important one. So… have you made your decision about the marriage alliance?”
The moment the words left his mouth, all three men instinctively looked at her, tension written across their faces.
Seeing their reactions and remembering what she had overheard earlier, Evelyn felt nothing but bitter irony.
“I’ve made my decision. Among the three of you, I-” Before she could finish, the heart monitor in the ward suddenly erupted into frantic beeping.
The three men stiffened, then immediately turned and rushed back inside, just as medical staff hurried over. “The patient’s kidneys have suffered further damage after the secondary injury! We failed to detect this earlier, and the medication administered was inappropriate–it’s triggered renal failure. Her condition is critical!”
At the doctor’s diagnosis, Sebastian’s eyes reddened instantly.

“What the hell were you all doing, prescribing the wrong medication? Daphne is so young–if your negligence ruins the rest of her life, can you even take responsibility for that?!”
Julian grabbed the attending physician by the collar, fury blazing in his voice. “You have half an hour to come up with a foolproof treatment plan. If anything happens to Daphne, I swear I’ll make you pay!”
Nathaniel, frantic, was already on the phone, calling in favors. “Professor Grayson, you’re one of the top nephrology specialists in the country. I need you to save someone very important to me. Where are you right now? I’ll send my secretary to pick you up immediately.”
Chaos engulfed the ward as everyone scrambled to address Daphne’s deteriorating condition.
Soon, the hospital assembled a specialized team and quickly proposed a solution. “The only option now is a kidney transplant. But
finding a perfectly matched donor could take time—and the longer we wait, the more dangerous her condition becomes!”
