Chapter 4

Without hesitation, the three men rushed to undergo compatibility tests upon hearing the doctor’s conclusion.

The results came back quickly–Sebastian’s kidney was a match.

When the doctor presented the surgical consent form, he signed without a second thought and walked straight into the operating room.

Time ticked by, tension thickening in the air–until a new crisis emerged.

A nurse hurried out, her voice frantic. “The blood bank is running low! The patient needs an emergency transfusion–immediately!”

Julian and Nathaniel, waiting outside, immediately rolled up their sleeves. “We share Daphne’s blood type. We’ll donate!”

“But she’s losing blood too fast–the two of you won’t be enough. We need more donors-‘

“There’s no time to find others! We’ll give as much as it takes. Just save Daphne!”

Unable to argue, the nurse led them to the transfusion room.

The red glow of the surgical light flickered incessantly, blurring Evelyn’s vision.

She had witnessed everything–from Daphne’s sudden deterioration to their desperate blood donations–yet her mind remained eerily

blank.

In her past life, she hadn’t been present when Sebastian and Julian died for Daphne. She’d only learned the details afterward.

Back then, drowning in grief, she couldn’t comprehend why they’d throw their lives away for her.

But now, seeing it unfold firsthand, she understood.

They loved Daphne. Loved her enough to sacrifice everything–without hesitation, without regret.

Their marriages, their lives–they surrendered them all willingly.

So Evelyn could never win!

Thankfully, in this life, she had already let go. She refused to be entangled in their twisted four–sided tragedy again.

When the surgical light finally dimmed, the doctor emerged, wiping his brow. “Are you family? The operation was a success–the patient should wake soon. However, the kidney donor needs ICU monitoring, and the two in the transfusion room lost consciousness from excessive blood loss. Will you be able to care for all four alone?”

Evelyn shook her head, her lips parched as she rasped, “I have no ties to any of them. But I’ll notify their they’ll come

immediately.”

She sent messages to the Harringtons, the Montgomerys, the Whitmores, and Mr. Holloway, rel

the situation.

As she turned to leave, snippets of nurses‘ whispers reached her, “No ties? I thought she was one of those handsome men’s wives!”

“How could she be? If your husband risked his life for another woman, would you stay? Those three must adore that girl–why else

would they fight to save her?”

Evelyn listened quietly, her lips curling into a soundless smile.

Exactly.

From beginning to end, their hearts had belonged to Daphne.

And she–she would never be their wife again.

Exhausted and aching, Evelyn returned home to find her parents waiting in the living room.

Their frowns deepened at her injuries, but she brushed it off with a quick excuse, assuring them she’d heal soon.

Only then did they relax, handing her a velvet box.

“This is the betrothal token from the Sinclair Family. Keep it safe. The one we sent has already reached Liam.”

Her mother hesitated before adding, “The Harringtons, Montgomerys, and Mr. Jasper Whitmore called about the alliance. They mentioned Daphne–said the boys were just ‘acting on compassion‘ and still favor you. We didn’t know how to respond. You handle this yourself; you’re grown now.”

Evelyn agreed, unwilling to burden them further.

Over the next two days, she researched the Sinclairs and Liam thoroughly, then visited boutiques to select gifts tailored to each family

member’s tastes.

Returning with a car full of presents, she found Sebastian, Julian, and Nathaniel waiting at her doorstep.

They’d brought enough gifts to overflow the parlor.

At her puzzled look, they exchanged glances before explaining, “Our families sent these–an apology for last time. You saw how critical

Daphne was. She worsened because of you, so we… overreacted.”

“Evelyn, if you’re angry, direct it at us. Don’t involve our elders or blame Daphne–she’s the victim here.”

So. Their families had forced this apology–and they’d seized the chance to plead Daphne’s case.

Too weary to argue, Evelyn replied coolly, “Take your gifts back. I don’t need them. I won’t trouble Daphne over something so trivial. Now, if you’ll excuse me.”

Rubbing her tired eyes, she reached into her bag for her phone-

–and the Sinclair betrothal box tumbled out, landing at Sebastian’s feet.

He picked it up, frowning. “What’s this?”

Julian and Nathaniel turned, their faces paling instantly.

“A betrothal token? Evelyn–you’ve already chosen an alliance partner? Who is it?”
