Chapter 9

By the time Sebastian, Julian, and Nathaniel rushed to the hospital, Daphne had already been coaxed down from her emotional

outburst.

Lying on the hospital bed, her eyes brimming with tears, she gazed at the three of them with a look that seemed to accuse them of abandoning her.

“You took so long to come…” The moment she spoke, tears spilled down her cheeks.

Their hearts instantly ached, and they crowded around her protectively.

“Don’t cry, we’re here now, aren’t we?” Sebastian gently wiped the tears from Daphne’s face, his eyes filled with tenderness.

“You just recovered–you shouldn’t be so upset. Focus on resting. We’ll stay with you,” Julian added, slightly annoyed that Sebastian

had beaten him to comforting her.

“Yeah, we’re not going anywhere,” Nathaniel chimed in, not wanting to be left out.

“But… you’re still going to marry Miss Caldwell, aren’t you?” Daphne’s voice trembled as she lowered her head in sorrow. “The thought of you being forced into marriages you don’t want because of me… it breaks my heart. A lifetime is too long to spend with someone you

don’t love.”

Hidden from their view, a cold smirk flickered across her lips.

When she looked up again, her expression had returned to its usual pitiful vulnerability.

Touched by her apparent selflessness, the three men felt their hearts swell with affection.

Any unease they’d felt during their earlier encounter with Evelyn was long forgotten.

“Daphne, you know how we feel about you. Why would you say that?”

“Even if one of us ends up marrying Evelyn, you’ll always be the most important person in our hearts.”

“You don’t need to worry. No matter what, you’ll always come first for us.”

Listening to their fervent promises, Daphne’s heart swelled with triumph.

That Caldwell Family’s precious daughter Evelyn meant nothing–every single thing she possessed could still be stolen away.

Meanwhile, Evelyn returned home and, after watching the three men leave, paused briefly before heading straight to the airport.

She arrived much earlier than expected.

A sudden thought struck her, and she dialed home. “Dad, replace the butler. It’s inappropriate for Daphne to keep living with us.”

“Mm. You go ahead. Your mother and I will handle things here.”

Hanging up, she boarded her flight, powered off her phone, and settled in to sleep.

The Caldwell parents had already been considering dismissing the butler. Initially, out of kindness, they had allowed him to bring his daughter to live with them, sympathizing with his struggles as a single father.

But now, he had brought nothing but disgrace to their household.

Without hesitation, they instructed HR to terminate his employment.

Yet, when the butler received the notice, he stormed into the study without even knocking. “Mr. Caldwell, what have I done wrong to deserve this?”

“Mr. Holloway, you’re no longer suited for this household,” Mr. Caldwell replied coldly, disgusted by the man’s audacity. He realized

now that he had been too lenient with the staff–they had forgotten their place.

“Just because the heirs of the Harrington, Montgomery, and Whitmore families favor my daughter, that doesn’t mean-”

Cutting off his rant, Mr. Caldwell signaled security to drag him out. The maids were ordered to toss his belongings out after him.

Furious at being expelled from the Caldwell residence, the butler refused to accept defeat.

What was wrong with his daughter being charming? This was just the Caldwells bullying them!

He called Daphne at the hospital, demanding she secure him a cushy job–high pay, minimal work.

When Daphne heard they’d been kicked out, rage burned in her chest.

After all the years they had spent in that house, how dare they throw them out like this?

Immediately, she turned on the waterworks for her three devoted protectors. “Sebastian, Julian, Nathaniel… what am I supposed to do?” she sobbed. “The Caldwells threw Dad and me out because of what happened at Mrs. Sinclair’s birthday party. I know she’s angry at me, but what did my father do to deserve this?”

The three men instantly vowed to call Evelyn and demand she reverse the decision.

But no matter how many times they dialed, all they got was, “The number you have dialed is currently switched off.”

Their expressions darkened. “Daphne, don’t worry. I won’t let your father be homeless. I have a vacant villa–you can both stay there.”

“Daphne, I also have-”

Watching them compete to house her, Daphne feigned overwhelming gratitude.

“Thank goodness I have you all…”
